At my workstation...

The day was peaceful: the Gould was gone; the Otters had flown; the Ross left this morning. Life at the Station is returning to normal. Although, for me it is all still new. A snow squall has closed in, bringing visibility to a minimum. The three icebergs just off the point have only rotated slightly with the tides.

I had my orientation with the technical staff who will be working with me: the Station Manager, Bob Farrell; the Lab Supervisor, Ken Doggett; the Communications Technician, Chip Dunn; the Network Administrator, Lora Folger; the Computer Technician, Andy Sutton; and my colleague Steve Dunbar. This was followed by an official orientation by Bob and Missy Mills. They have been so busy since we arrived that things are only now settling down. It is nice to be here amidst a strong and friendly community of diverse people.

Andy had me on-line with my own computer and I spent the rest of the day setting up our office and sorting through my recording gear. Steve and I look out over the pier and to the ice in the narrow channel that separates us from Bonaparte Point.
