![]() A less than successful boxcore with green, soupy mud all over the deck. |
After a reasonably productive rotation at FB#2, i.e., more coring successes than not, Dave and Craig conferred and decided that we should take advantage of the relatively calm seas state to return to FB#3, where we had had such a bear of a time getting a decent boxcore several days ago. The amended plan would be to try to get a couple of more boxcores as well as a few more mega cores and redeploy the SCUD for some underwater observations via video.
Assuming all went well, we would then turn the ship around, redeploy one of Terry Hoolihan's sediment traps in the lee of Hugo Island. Hugo Island is a desolate, snow covered rock west of Palmer Station. It was named for the French author, Victor Hugo, by Dr. J. B. Charcot who was part of a 1903-05 French expedition; Dr. Charcot's first wife, Jeanne Hugo, was the writer's granddaughter.
